About The Position

Are you excited about applying data, tools, and analytics to real-world space missions? Do you enjoy organizing complex information and turning it into clear, actionable plans? Are you looking to launch your career in project planning, scheduling, and data-driven decision-making? If so, we’re looking for someone like you to join our Finance and Administration Group in the Space Sector of APL. We are seeking a motivated early-career professional to grow into a Project Planner/Scheduler role supporting Civil Space and National Security Space programs. In this role, you’ll develop critical planning and scheduling skills while working in an Earned Value Management System (EVMS) environment. You will support Microsoft Project scheduling, contribute to EVM execution, and assist with proposal planning and development. No prior space experience is required; just a strong interest in learning, problem-solving, and working on impactful missions. As part of APL’s Planning & Scheduling Section, you will collaborate closely with Project Managers, Control Account Managers (CAMs), Financial Managers, subcontractors, and sponsors. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Information Science, Data Analytics, Engineering, or a related field
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with data visualization tools such as Power BI (or similar)
  • Demonstrated ability to work with data, organize information, and identify patterns or insights
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • To access APL’s facilities and networks, U.S. Citizenship is required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Microsoft Project and other planning/scheduling tools (e.g., forProject, SSI Tools, KIDASA Milestone Professional, Acumen Fuse, Primavera)
  • PMP and/or PMI-SP certification
  • Experience with Critical Path Analysis (CPA) and Schedule Margin Analysis (SMA)
  • Advanced Excel skills (e.g., VBA/macros) and/or experience with Power BI

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and analyze Integrated Master Schedules (IMS) in MS Project Server for Civil Space and National Security Space programs
  • Build and manage detailed schedules that provide clear execution roadmaps
  • Perform critical path analysis, schedule margin analysis, and trend/risk assessments
  • Prepare and present schedule reports to internal leadership and external stakeholders during reviews and milestone meetings
  • Support Earned Value Management (EVM) planning, inputs, and reporting
  • Assist with proposal planning and respond to ad hoc scheduling requests from leadership
