The Aerospace Corporation is hiring a Data Engineering Undergrad Intern within the Digital Innovation Division (DID). This position will be full-time, 100% onsite at our office in El Segundo, California. Job Summary Aerospace’s Digital Innovation Division (DID) is leading the company’s transformation into a digital enterprise while also helping Aerospace customers achieve their own digital transformation goals. This small, tightly-knit, agile organization is composed of experts in digital engineering (DE), artificial intelligence (AI), digital ecosystems, cloud technologies, modeling and simulation (M&S), and data operations. Leveraging this collective expertise, DID fulfills its core mission: build the foundation for digital innovation across both Aerospace and the broader space enterprise. The Data & Software Operations Subdivision (DSO) in DID provides guidance on architecting a centralized platform to manage enterprise data and software. It establishes data and software governance to develop and to promote the usage of authoritative source of truth data sets and software applications across Aerospace. It spearheads the development and integration of enterprise data and software operations capabilities. As an intern within DSO you will be involved in modern data management processes for key corporate data sets and their integrated tools and applications.

Requirements

  • Possess organizational, time management and project management skills. We use Jira for task management.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and ability to adapt to changing organizational need.
  • Interpersonal skills to coordinate efforts and work with other internal and external organizations.
  • Currently enrolled full-time in an accredited college/university program pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data engineering, data science or related discipline.
  • Availability to work full-time for a minimum of 10 weeks outside of university term and ability to return to a degree program full-time after completion of the internship.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Must have Python and C++ programming experience and firm grasp of algorithm development.
  • Microsoft 365 applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Generative AI prompt engineering experience.
  • Solid understanding of data structures, databases and data architecture.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the US government.
  • U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
  • Transcripts required.

Nice To Haves

  • GPA 3.5 or higher.
  • Active security clearance.
  • Working knowledge of Jira, Confluence, MKDocs, Microsoft Azure data services.
  • Understanding of basic data services such as data pipeline development, database management, object stores, data quality validation.

Responsibilities

  • Working with a team of 12 dedicated data engineers to characterize and integrate data sets into our corporate data management platform (DMP). This will provide access to key data to all engineers across the corporation.
  • Characterizing data sets by working with data stewards to define the metadata, use cases, data flow diagrams, and data definitions. These artifacts will then guide the data integration onto the DMP.
  • Working with data owners and data stewards to enhance and improve the corporate Data Catalog.
  • Learning about data management lifecycle processes such as data migration, data transformation, data quality validation, and data delivery.
  • Develop leadership competencies including Engaging with Impact, Fostering Innovation, and Delivering Results.
  • Training and mentorship will be provided
