About The Position

The City of Greeley is proud to partner with Weld County School District 6 to offer high school students and young professionals the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in local government. This internship provides an immersive experience in public service, allowing students to develop professional skills, engage with community initiatives, and contribute to meaningful projects that impact the city. What You’ll Gain: Real-World Experience Work alongside city leaders and professionals in a dynamic, collaborative environment. Participate in hands-on assignments that support day-to-day city operations and strategic initiatives. Professional Development & Learning Gain exposure to public administration, finance, community development, public safety, and other municipal functions. Develop communication, project management, and teamwork skills through real projects and structured learning. Build confidence in public speaking and leadership through workshops and presentations. Workshops, Training & Events Interns will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of professional development activities, which may include: Resume & LinkedIn Coaching – Learn how to present your skills and experiences to future employers. Business Etiquette & Communication – Understand workplace expectations, email etiquette, and professional conduct. Crucial Conversations Training – Practice having effective, respectful conversations in challenging situations. Public Speaking & Leadership Workshops – Build confidence speaking in front of groups and leading initiatives. City Council Meetings & Department Presentations – Observe decision-making in action and learn how local government works. Tours, Career Panels & Networking Events – Take part in city facility tours, meet professionals across departments, and explore different career paths. Participating Departments: City Clerk's Office Greeley Police Department (CORE Unit) Community Development/Historic Preservation (2) Finance  Water Instrument and Controls Information Technology Culture, Parks, and Recreation/Recreation/Adaptive and Inclusive Recreation (2) Facilities Mentorship & Networking Connect with professionals in your field of interest and receive ongoing feedback and career guidance. Engage in mentorship sessions with city staff and leaders to explore career goals and education pathways. Build a professional network that can support your long-term success. Requirements

  • High school junior or senior enrolled in Weld County School District 6 (or partner program, if applicable).
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Positive workplace attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to follow through on assigned tasks.

Nice To Haves

  • Interest in public service, local government, business, or related fields.
  • Basic familiarity with Microsoft Office or Google Workspace tools.
  • Curiosity, initiative, and a desire to contribute to the Greeley community.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with administrative tasks, research, and project coordination.
  • Supporting city events, community outreach programs, and department initiatives.
  • Conducting data entry, report preparation, and basic analysis to support city operations.
  • Collaborating with city employees to develop solutions for real-world challenges.
  • Engaging with the public, answering inquiries, and providing customer service.
  • Participating in team meetings, workshops, and trainings, and presenting findings on assigned projects.
  • Attending select city tours, career panels, and/or city council or department meetings as part of the learning experience.
