About The Position

The BOLT (Building Opportunities & Learning Together) Intern Program is Kinder Morgan's elite summer internship program. Our pipelines transport natural gas, gasoline, crude oil, carbon dioxide (CO2) and more. Our terminals store and handle renewable fuels, petroleum products, chemicals, vegetable oils and other products. We are a market leader in each of our businesses - Natural Gas Pipelines, Products Pipelines, CO2, and Terminals. We have an unparalleled, large footprint of diversified and strategically located assets that are core to North American energy infrastructure and help deliver needed energy products to high-demand markets. The EHS Summer Intern will be responsible for working with the business unit's EHS staff on its environmental health and safety initiatives. Effectively communicate and coordinate with Regional EHS Director and staff as work is being completed - weekly reports of accomplishments. May also be required to assist at other regional locations to lead and assist with the implementation of EHS/Operational tasks. All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Actively enrolled in a college/university program in Computer Science, Economics, Safety Management, Environmental Science, Engineering, Accounting, Finance or related fields.
  • Willing and able to work in a corporate office environment and also work outside in the plant environment, in all types of climatic conditions wearing the appropriate level of PPE.
  • Able to climb stairs, cranes, conveyor systems, tanks, and negotiate uneven surfaces.
  • Ability to travel to other field or corporate locations, with some overnight stays (1-2 times).
  • Ability to obtain and/or possess a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and meet insurability requirements.
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills, people skills, and ability to work under pressure within deadlines.
  • Proficient command of computer systems, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Ability to take initiative, exhibit self-direction, and work with co-workers to accomplish defined goals in a fast-paced, challenging environment.
  • Ability to become a member of the EHS team while successfully completing and passing required training and certification courses.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in Environmental, Health and/or Safety; Accounting and/or Economics; or Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Chemical and/or Environmental).
  • Experience with Environmental, Health and Safety analytics (sabermetrics).
  • Webpage/SharePoint development (internal for stakeholders).
  • Regulatory knowledge: OSHA, FRA, PHMSA, DOT, and EPA.

Responsibilities
