About The Position

The Neuroscience co-op program for 2025 at West Point is part of the Future Talent Program, which offers co-op opportunities lasting six months. These positions are designed to provide students with hands-on experience in our Research Labs, allowing them to engage in one or more projects that contribute to their professional development. The Neuroscience team is looking for motivated and technically skilled co-op students who are majoring in biological sciences, pharmacology, or bioengineering. Candidates should possess a strong interest in neuroscience and a desire to learn about Central Nervous System (CNS) drug discovery. Successful candidates will be expected to work independently while also collaborating proactively with colleagues. The primary responsibilities of the co-op student will include contributing to the execution of in vitro and/or in vivo experiments. This may involve establishing cell-based model systems, developing immunoassays, and performing biochemical and immunohistochemical analyses of tissues. These tasks are essential for supporting the identification and validation of novel targets aimed at treating CNS diseases. The co-op student will actively participate in scientific discussions that align with our mission of drug discovery, which is critical for fostering innovation and progress in our research efforts. Specific responsibilities include designing, executing, interpreting, and reporting on in vitro and/or in vivo experiments. The co-op student will assist in developing, executing, and troubleshooting new assays, protocols, and imaging methods. Clear and concise communication of data to teams and stakeholders is essential, as is the ability to monitor, review, and critically interpret published work to guide research efforts. Collaboration with members from other functional areas, such as medicinal chemistry and pharmacology, will also be a key aspect of the role.
