About The Position

The 2025 Summer Undergraduate Mentored Research Program (SUMR) at the University of Pennsylvania offers a full-time, paid internship for undergraduates interested in health services research. This 12-week program, running from May 27 to August 15, 2025, aims to provide equal opportunities for students to engage in research across various health-related fields. Additionally, the program includes the Get Experience in Aging Research Undergraduate Program (GEAR UP), a 15-month fellowship designed for underrepresented students pursuing careers in aging research, which runs concurrently with SUMR.

Requirements

  • Interest in health care
  • Strong quantitative skills
  • Candidates from underrepresented groups in health services research are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Work on paid research projects with Penn faculty mentors
  • Participate in a 6-month online GRE prep program
  • Attend week-long orientation and 20 seminars with Penn faculty

  • Participate in an 8-week critical writing program
  • Present research at the End of SUMR Symposium
  • Engage in formal and informal activities related to aging research for GEAR UP scholars.
