About The Position

The 2025 Summer Law Clerk position at the Public Law Center focuses on providing legal support in impact litigation and policy advocacy for low-income communities. Law clerks will engage in client interaction, legal research and writing, and community education, contributing to the organization's mission of delivering free legal services to disadvantaged populations in Orange County.

Requirements

  • First, second, or third year (part-time) law student.
  • Demonstrated commitment to serving low-income or disadvantaged individuals, families, and communities.
  • Excellent research and writing skills.
  • Sensitivity and ability to work with victims of domestic violence and other sensitive populations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform new case intake interviews and follow-up with clients through interviews and telephone calls.
  • Conduct fact gathering and present new cases at weekly Case Acceptance meetings.
  • Prepare opening case memos and draft correspondence, pleadings, and motions.
  • Assist in drafting manuals, samples, and educational presentations for pro bono attorneys.
  • Research legal issues and prepare client education materials.
  • Assist in conducting presentations to clients.
  • Focus on impact litigation cases and policy issues affecting low-income communities.
  • Assist in the preparation of pleadings, motions, and discovery requests.
  • Draft regulatory comments and letters, and participate in coalition meetings.
