The 2025 Summer Intern position at Roche Diagnostic Solutions in the Pathology Lab focuses on cancer diagnostics research and the early development of new technologies for the pathology field. The Pathology Lab Research and Early Development (PL-RED) department is responsible for feeding the product development pipeline for clinical pathology laboratory customers and for new tissue diagnostics in medicine. This cross-disciplinary department relies on contributions from various fields, including biology, chemistry, physics, robotics, computer science, and artificial intelligence. The internship is located in Tucson and is an on-site position.

  • Use general knowledge of biology, molecular biology, and/or chemistry to help develop new reagent formulations and procedures for tissue diagnostics.
  • Engage in hands-on laboratory bench work as part of the Pathology Assay Team.
  • Integrate into an Agile team environment and be mentored in pathology assay technology R&D while completing a defined project.
  • Contribute to real-world efforts to provide diagnostic certainty for patients.
  • Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student) in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or Chemistry.
  • Two years or more of general biology or chemistry laboratory experience required.
  • Strong understanding of scientific principles, concepts, and common laboratory skills related to life sciences and/or life-science related chemistry.
  • Working knowledge and basic experience with immunohistochemistry.
  • Experience presenting scientific data and maintaining detailed laboratory notes.
  • Ability to use common laboratory equipment such as pipettes, pH meters, and precision weight scales.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with histology/tissue pathology concepts and histochemical stains for tissue preferred (H&E, special stains).
  • Experience with automated histological staining instruments.
  • Paid internship for 12 weeks, full-time (40 hours per week).
