About the position

The 2025 Paid Summer Legal Internship at Legal Services of the Hudson Valley (LSHV) offers law students the opportunity to gain practical litigation experience while advocating for low-income individuals and families. Interns will work in housing units or general practice units, receiving mentorship and training in various legal areas, including family law, housing, and immigration law. This full-time internship is designed to prepare the next generation of social justice lawyers through hands-on experience and skill development.

Responsibilities

  • Assist LSHV attorneys and staff in serving clients
  • Conduct client interviews and issue spotting
  • Perform legal research and writing
  • Prepare court documents and accompany attorneys to court
  • Appear in court under a student practice order
  • Support clients in maintaining their housing rights
  • Assist in various practice areas including family law, domestic violence, and immigration law.

Requirements

  • Must be a law student enrolled in a U.S. law school
  • Completion of two years of law school by May 2025 or graduating in 2025
  • Must not have previously accepted an LSHV Paid Summer Legal Internship
  • Ability to work several days per week in person at the assigned office
  • Ability to travel to the office and other locations as needed.
