About The Position

EPCOR USA is hiring a temporary Governmental Relations Intern to support policy research, stakeholder relations, and regulatory monitoring. This paid internship offers hands-on experience in government affairs, with responsibilities including drafting communication materials and preparing reports for grant applications. The internship lasts up to 9 months, with interns working up to 40 hours per week, reporting to the Director of Government Relations. Clearance on background checks is required, and interns will be part of a team committed to investing in communities and the environment.

Requirements

  • Must be actively enrolled in an undergraduate program at an accredited local university or a recent graduate with an interest in utilities, water policy, and government affairs.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • Detail-oriented and strong analytical skills.
  • Strong technical and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in a professional environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research on local, state, and federal water policies and regulations.
  • Analyze how proposed changes in legislation may impact EPCOR's operations.
  • Assist with maintaining relationships with government officials, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders by participating in meetings and public hearings.
  • Prepare summaries and briefs of meetings.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory development related to water resources, environmental protection, and utility regulation.
  • Help draft communication materials that could be distributed internally and externally to communicate EPCOR's policy initiatives.
  • Prepare detailed reports for grant applications that support the utility's efforts to lower costs for customers.
  • Work closely with various departments within EPCOR such as legal, rates, public affairs, operations, engineering to support the government relations team.
