About The Position

Salem Five is a growing regional financial services organization with a rich history of over 160 years. As an independent bank, we are deeply rooted in the communities we serve and offer our employees successful and rewarding careers. This position requires the ability to work in the Salem, MA offices. The intern program at Salem Five Bank is a paid summer internship. Internships are open to college students completing their sophomore or junior years. This is a five day per week assignment, (M-F) 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (2025 program dates are Tuesday, May 27, 2025 through Friday, August 8, 2025.) During the assignment, the intern will have the opportunity to work with members of the Consumer Banking Division and others to gain a working knowledge of processes and overall business operations in Retail Banking, Community Business Banking, and Consumer Lending, and through partnership with other key areas of the bank. Throughout the eleven-week program, the intern will participate in Salem Five events and gain valuable insights into the many facets of Consumer Banking specifically, and banking as a whole.

Requirements

  • Must be a college student completing sophomore or junior years.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a desire to deliver superb customer experiences.
  • Can-do attitude with high energy and ability to multi-task.
  • Critical thinker with strong attention to detail.
  • Resourceful self-starter with the ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Strong data and process analytical skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in customer service or banking.
  • Familiarity with financial services or retail banking.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in an Intern Orientation on the first day.
  • Travel to branch locations to meet teams and observe customer interactions.
  • Work with the Retail Operations team to understand policy, procedure, and compliance matters.
  • Participate in branch audits conducted in the field.
  • Engage in compliance and policy monitoring activities in Deposit Operations.
  • Gain hands-on experience in the Contact Center and Digital Delivery & Support.
  • Work with Business Bankers to gain product knowledge and build relationships.
  • Engage in small business lending activities and loan package preparation.
  • Review and approve consumer loans.
  • Complete remaining project work in Retail Administration during final weeks.
