About The Position

The Teacher for the NMPED Visiting Teacher Program is responsible for teaching one or more subjects while specializing in areas of interest. The role involves creating an environment that fosters intellectual, emotional, physical, and psychological growth in students. The teacher will organize and implement an instructional program and provide direct instruction in subject matter and skills to enhance student achievement according to each student's abilities. This position is based in various school sites and reports to the Principal.

Requirements

  • Four year degree and valid New Mexico Secondary Teaching License (or the ability to obtain such).
  • Appropriate endorsements for the courses being taught.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual English/Spanish.
  • At least one year's previous teaching experience.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and implements a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional material and provides individualized and small group instruction.
  • Ensures that the seven Common Commitments established by the District are evident in direct instruction.
  • Delivers curriculum using adopted textbooks.
  • Translates lesson plans into developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere.
  • Evaluates pupils' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
  • Identifies pupil needs and makes appropriate referrals and develops strategies for individual education plans (IEPs).
  • Plans and supervises class projects, field trips, and other experiential activities.
  • Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.
  • Sponsors extracurricular activities such as clubs and academic contests.
  • Creates an environment for learning through functional and attractive displays.
  • Collaborates with peers to enhance the instructional environment and develop common assessments.
  • Models professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and community.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
