About The Position

The Teacher - English Language Development (ELD) position at Santa Fe High School involves teaching creative writing and freshman seminar in a high school setting. The role is designed to provide an atmosphere that allows students to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and psychological growth. The teacher is responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program and providing direct instruction in Language Arts and related skills that will result in student achievement in accordance with each student's ability.

Requirements

  • Minimum: Four-year degree and valid New Mexico Secondary Teaching License (or the ability to obtain such), with appropriate endorsements for the courses being taught.
  • Preferred: Bilingual English/Spanish.
  • At least one year's previous teaching experience.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and implements a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional material and provides individualized and small group instruction.
  • Delivers curriculum using adopted textbooks.
  • Translates lesson plans into developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere.
  • Evaluates pupils' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
  • Identifies pupil needs and makes appropriate referrals; develops strategies for individual education plans (IEPs).
  • Plans and supervises class projects, field trips, and other experiential activities.
  • Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.
  • Sponsors extracurricular activities such as clubs and academic contests.
  • Creates an environment for learning through functional and attractive displays.
  • Collaborates with peers to enhance the instructional environment and develop common assessments.
  • Models professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and community.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
