About The Position

The 2025-2026 HS Marching Band Director will work under the general supervision of the School Principal to plan and organize instruction that maximizes student learning. The director, along with assistant directors, percussion instructor, and colorguard instructor, will be responsible for designing, teaching, and executing the show for the marching season. Candidates must demonstrate knowledge of marching band instruction, including drill writing, drill teaching, music arranging, marching instruction/techniques, and percussion instruction. Attendance at all football games as scheduled by the Athletic Director is mandatory, and additional spring rehearsals may be necessary for community events such as parades. The band will perform a field show at all home football games, pep rallies, community events, and playoff games.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated knowledge of marching band instruction including drill writing and teaching.
  • Experience in music arranging and percussion instruction.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage rehearsals and performances.

Responsibilities

  • Design, write, and arrange shows appropriate to the instrumentation.
  • Work with consultants and volunteers to ensure exemplary instruction for students.
  • Meet and communicate with consultants and volunteers to prepare for student needs.
  • Perform at all designated school and community events.
  • Prepare and rehearse students for field shows, parade marching, and pep activities.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student growth and progress in marching band activities.
  • Modify instructional methods to fit individual student needs, including those with special needs.
  • Complete and create necessary paperwork including field trip forms and permission slips.
  • Obtain quotes for materials and music required for student success.
  • Create and maintain a performance and rehearsal calendar.
  • Provide copies of the performance and rehearsal calendar to students, parents, and administrators.
  • Continue to acquire professional knowledge and stay updated on current developments in marching band.
  • Maintain accurate record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities.
  • Encourage parental involvement in students' education and ensure effective communication.
  • Ensure student conduct conforms to school standards and district policies.
  • Select and requisition appropriate instructional aids and maintain inventory records.
