About the position

The Classroom Teacher is directly responsible to the school principal or designee. The teacher is expected to provide planned instruction in each subject assigned, following the course of study specified in state law and school district regulations. The role involves creating learning experiences that encourage maximum growth for each student, selecting appropriate materials for instruction, and evaluating pupils' academic and social growth. Communication with parents and staff regarding individual pupil progress is essential. The teacher will also identify pupil needs and consult with other professional staff to address health, behavioral, and learning problems. Maintaining basic student records and participating in faculty meetings are also part of the responsibilities. Continuous professional development through inservice education activities is encouraged, along with maintaining professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.

Responsibilities

  • Provide planned instruction in each subject assigned to teach.
  • Follow course of study specified in state law and school district regulations.
  • Provide learning experiences to encourage maximum growth for each student.
  • Select and use appropriate materials available in the district for students and subjects assigned.
  • Evaluate pupils' academic and social growth, keep appropriate records and communicate with parents and staff on the individual pupil's progress.
  • Identify pupil needs and consult with other professional staff in assessing and helping pupils solve health, behavioral, and learning problems.
  • Maintain basic student records as required.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings.
  • Maintain professional competence through participation in inservice education activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Maintain professional relationships with students, with colleagues, and between school and home.
  • Establish a standard of classroom control that allows effective learning to take place.
  • Promote a classroom environment that is conducive to the growth of student responsibility and self-control.
  • Encourage an atmosphere that stimulates inquiry, self-expression, and individual growth.
  • Share equally, insofar as possible, in the supervision of pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the working day.
  • Share equally, insofar as possible, in faculty responsibilities during the working day.
  • Share in the supervision and/or sponsorship of student activities in terms of teacher interests and school needs.
  • Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school of assignment and/or on a district level.
  • Perform business services as required.
  • Participate in community-school relations.
