About The Position

Santa Rosa Junior College is currently accepting applications on a continuous basis to establish a pool for associate faculty assignments. Associate assignments may be temporary, part-time and/or on-call and may be immediate or as needed. Assignments are made on a part-time, hourly basis. A part-time faculty assignment may not exceed a total of 67% of an annual full-time assignment. Starting Hourly Rate: Please see the hourly salary schedules or contact Human Resources for more information. Salary placement is based on academic background, vocational experience, and teaching experience (depending on discipline) and as documented in application materials. Initial Step placement will be at Step 1 pending evaluation of experience as outlined in the AFA Contract Article 27. Compensation for assigned classes is paid over the duration of the assignment. The District offers medical insurance for those who meet the eligibility requirements. Additional information, including medical plan information and eligibility requirements can be found on the Benefits page. Associate faculty accrue sick leave on a pro-rated basis. Additional information can be found in Article 18 of the AFA Contract. SRJC offers CalSTRS Defined Benefit, CalSTRS Cash Balance and Social Security as Associate Faculty retirement options. Eligibility for each plan is determined based on prior membership status with CalSTRS.

Requirements

  • A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college which shall include courses in Nursing, or in Natural, Behavioral or Social Sciences relevant to nursing practice.
  • Direct patient care experience within the previous five (5) years in the nursing areas (geriatrics, medical-surgical, mental-health/psychiatric nursing, obstetrics, or pediatrics).
  • One (1) year's continuous, full-time or its equivalent experience providing direct patient care as a registered nurse in the designated nursing area; or one (1) academic year of registered nurse level clinical teaching experience in the designated nursing area or its equivalent.
  • Validated clinical competence as defined in section 1420(d).
  • All candidates must be approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing prior to appointment to this pool.
  • All candidates must hold active licensure as a registered nurse in California.
  • Must understand the importance of California Board of Registered Nursing approved curriculum for nursing education.
  • Must have a sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience teaching in a professional nursing program.
  • Online teaching experience at the college level.
  • Certification in nursing specialty areas.
  • Demonstrated evidence of innovative classroom teaching.
  • Experience using simulation in nursing education.
  • Experience using a learning management system and educational software (e.g. Canvas).
  • Proficiency with healthcare technology (e.g. Electronic Patient Medical Record systems).
  • Current industry experience relevant to the discipline.
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing and promoting diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism.

Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent instruction and faculty support to students, which may include evening, weekend, online or hybrid and/or off-campus assignments.
  • Provide academic assistance and related services to students during scheduled office hours.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff.
  • Maintain currency in field(s) of expertise.
  • Focus primarily on providing instruction and/or student services.
  • May be asked to perform district or department service such as committee work, evaluations, student learning outcomes assessment, and hiring committees for additional compensation.
