About the position
Data Engineers on the Proprietary Research team at P72 work closely with investment professionals, researchers, and data scientists to design and build robust end-to-end data pipelines and tools. They are responsible for extracting insights from large, complex compliance approved structured and unstructured data sets. The role involves developing and supporting big data processing pipelines, building cloud-based infrastructure, and staying at the forefront of new technology developments in handling and processing Big Data. Additionally, Data Engineers are expected to have excellent attention to detail, organization, and project management skills, as well as the ability to collaborate and build relationships across multiple business units within the firm.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with investment professionals, researchers, and data scientists to design, build, and launch robust end-to-end data pipelines and tools
- Develop and support big data processing pipelines including ingestion, transformation, and end-customer delivery
- Build out cloud-based infrastructure using distributed techniques for other data engineers / data scientists / researchers
- Stay updated with new technology developments in handling and processing Big Data and conduct proof of concepts evaluations of new technologies
- Build and support visualization and exploration capabilities around big data sets
- Transform large unstructured data sets into valuable investment research inputs
- Learn and work with industry-leading cloud-computing technologies
- Speak with experts both inside and outside the firm to understand data needs and offerings
- Work in fast-paced environments and switch gears to address the needs of the business
- Collaborate and build relationships across multiple business units within the firm
- Demonstrate excellent attention to detail, organization, and project management skills
- Apply superb business intuition and a solution-oriented, methodological approach to problem-solving
- Collaborate with a cross-functional team of Investment, Research, and Compliance professionals
- Uphold the highest ethical standards and work closely with the firm's Compliance team
- Pursue a bachelor's or MS degree in CS, Engineering, or other quantitative discipline
- Have experience or demonstrated interest in big data technologies
- Possess a solid understanding of computer science fundamentals
- Strong experience in Python Development
- Interest in working with data and big data problems and technologies, such as Spark and Scala
- Ability to devise novel and innovative solutions to challenges
- Knowledge of/experience with graph databases is a plus
- Demonstrate commitment to the highest ethical standards
- Demonstrate integrity, ownership, and commerciality in work performance.
Requirements
- Pursuit of bachelor's or MS degree in CS, Engineering, or other quantitative discipline
- Experience or demonstrated interest in big data technologies
- Solid understanding of computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, etc.)
- Strong experience in Python Development
- Interest in working with data and big data problems and technologies, such as Spark and Scala
- Ability to devise novel and innovative solutions to challenges
- Knowledge of/experience with graph databases is a plus
