About The Position

The Paraprofessional I for Special Education at Boltz Middle School is responsible for providing essential instructional and physical support to students with mild to moderate physical disabilities, emotional disabilities, and/or special needs. This role is crucial in ensuring that these students can fully participate in classroom activities. The paraprofessional will assist the General Classroom or Special Education Teacher in implementing instruction, reinforcing learning skills, and adapting the curriculum to meet individual student needs. This includes monitoring and enforcing acceptable social and physical behavior among students with learning disabilities. In addition to academic support, the paraprofessional will assist students with personal care, social skills, and self-awareness. This may involve helping students navigate to and from bus stops, restrooms, and lunchrooms, as well as providing personal health and hygiene assistance, which could include spoon feeding, tube feeding, toileting, and lifting or pushing students in wheelchairs. The paraprofessional may also use alternative communication methods, such as sign language or voice-activated computer systems, and adapt classroom materials for students with hearing or vision disabilities. The role also includes clerical responsibilities such as preparing materials, administering tests, grading, taking attendance, and maintaining student records. Monitoring students during classroom activities, breaks, and field trips is another key responsibility, along with reinforcing school-wide discipline procedures. The paraprofessional will also assist with special projects as needed and is expected to attend relevant in-services, meetings, and training sessions to enhance their skills and knowledge in special education.
