About The Position

The MFS Tax Outreach Liaison position is part of the AmeriCorps program, focusing on community outreach and awareness regarding free tax preparation services and resources in the greater Portland area. The role is designed to support the CASH Oregon program and involves extensive training in individual tax law, as well as collaboration with other AmeriCorps members and staff to enhance tax education opportunities. The position aims to empower under-resourced communities by providing essential tax resource navigation and developing tailored financial education curricula.

Requirements

• Must be willing to undergo training on individual tax law and become certified with the IRS.
• Ability to work collaboratively with community members and organizations.
• Strong communication and public speaking skills.

Responsibilities

• Support the CASH Oregon program by providing community outreach and awareness on free tax prep services.
• Receive 40+ hours of training on basic individual tax law and certify with the IRS as a volunteer tax preparer.
• Support the development and tailoring of financial education curriculum to meet community needs.
• Provide tax resource navigation and partner development to reach under-resourced communities.
• Collaborate with other MFS AmeriCorps members and staff to create tax education opportunities across programs.
• Recruit and coordinate community volunteers.
