About The Position

The 2nd Shift QA (NSIS) Supervisor is responsible for directing the workforce to achieve safety, food safety, and quality goals as set by facility management. This position supervises Food Safety and Quality (FSQA) personnel and oversees quality and food safety aspects of production. The supervisor reports directly to the QA Superintendent and plays a crucial role in ensuring compliance with quality and food safety programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field required (Food Science, Meat Science, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology Engineering, Food Engineering, or related field).
  • Extensive knowledge and technical skill in a variety of QA and production jobs, and in supervisory positions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully, both written and verbally.
  • Bilingual skills helpful.
  • Capable of independent decision making.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrates integrity and fairness.

Responsibilities

  • Meet and exceed quality and food safety goals set forth by plant management.
  • Coordinate the activities of the Food Safety & Quality Assurance (FSQA) team for implementation of quality and food safety programs (HACCP and SSOP).
  • Conduct investigations of plant Quality Assurance and Food Safety processes and suggest process improvements.
  • Look for continuous improvement in operating processes and procedures.
  • Conduct microbial R&D testing.
  • Minimize customer claims through engineering controls.
  • Monitor product and procedures to assure compliance with company, customer, and government specifications.
  • Coordinate and supervise pre-operation sanitation.
  • Improve employee safety by identifying hazards and troubleshooting solutions.
  • Manage labor to a zero budget.
  • Complete daily production plans by scheduling and assigning employees.
  • Manage hourly employee's time cards and vacation requests.
  • Increase employee retention and maintain good working relationships with Production Supervision, USDA, and all employees.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, human resources, and safety policies.
  • Resolve problems and issues with products and employees.
  • Communicate frequently with USDA inspectors regarding product, employees, and safety.
  • Ensure compliance with HACCP plan for all products.
  • Establish and maintain shelf-life requirements and finished product specifications.
  • Direct, motivate, and monitor QA employees.
  • Conduct interviews and hire new employees; evaluate performance of current employees.
  • Conduct sampling of finished product and raw materials for bacteria.
  • Monitor and ensure proper procedures, safety, and cleanliness of production employees.
  • Ensure completion of all QA duties.
  • Test new equipment for quality aspects.
  • Lead product shows and conference calls in absence of superintendent.
  • Manage cold chain temperature logging program.
