About The Position

The Maintenance Supervisor position at JBS in Ottumwa, IA involves performing skilled maintenance activities including construction, welding, brazing, soldering, plumbing, and hydraulics. The supervisor will monitor all production areas to ensure proper functioning of equipment and machinery, prioritize work orders, and schedule mechanics based on the immediacy and necessity of orders. Training employees on safety procedures, including Lock Out Tag Out, Power Industrial Truck, Scissor Lift, and Harness/Fall Protection, is a key responsibility. The role also includes adjusting, repairing, and replacing electrical and electronic equipment, participating in HAZMAT team activities, and promoting safety in all aspects of maintenance. The supervisor will handle paperwork, attend meetings, provide feedback to team members, and assist HR with maintaining accurate payroll records. Additionally, the supervisor coordinates maintenance responsibilities, processes maintenance downtime reports, maintains the department budget, conducts preoperational inspections, and reviews maintenance purchase requisitions.

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate verbally and in written form in English.
  • Ability to perform general mathematical calculations.
  • Mechanical inclination and knowledge of job specifications.
  • Industrial construction experience beneficial.
  • Previous hourly maintenance and supervisor experience preferred.
  • Work 40+ hours per week in all areas of the plant.
  • Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and practices used in the building, mechanical and electrical trades.
  • Previous mechanical and related experience required.
  • Considerable knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Good attendance record (Less than 3 points, for internal candidates).

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide timely feedback to team members on progression through training.
  • Spend time in plant verifying team members with hands-on training and comprehension.
  • Assist HR with maintaining accurate pay for hourly job postings and keeping accurate records of placement.
  • Coordinate maintenance employee's responsibilities and oversee the mechanical of equipment.
  • Responsible for correcting or facilitating correctible measures when downtime results from mechanical or technical defects.
  • Process maintenance downtime report for corporate and plant management.
  • Assign work orders or special projects to maintenance employees.
  • Maintain department budget within specified guidelines.
  • Conduct preoperational inspection and handle maintenance concerns of Production Supervisors.
  • Review maintenance purchase requisitions and submit for approval.
  • Tend to other duties as needed.
