About The Position

The Sort Deck Operator role within the Distribution Center (DC) at Ocean State Job Lot (OSJL or Company) is responsible for helping with the smooth and efficient operation of both sort decks. This role's primary responsibility is to ensure that the conveyor system moves product continuously throughout the 1.3 million square foot DC's conveyor lines. The role ensures that all equipment is safe, in good working condition, and in compliance with established safety standards, operating policies, and regulations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is required.
  • Ability to use a walkie-talkie.
  • Some proficiency with Google platform (i.e., Sites, Slides, Drive, Docs, Sheets).

Responsibilities

  • Complete regularly scheduled inspections and work cooperatively throughout the day with the Conveyor Team ensuring that the system is operating.
  • Identify stoppages visually and use the conveyor computer system to rectify, ensuring the continuous flow of products through the DC conveyor system.
  • Inspect and adjust the orientation of cartons, if needed.
  • Unclog jams that occur throughout the day.
  • Monitor the re-circulation lane identifying when products are rejected and ensuring the products go to the proper lanes as soon as possible.
  • Vacuum, wash, or dust all equipment and floors as dictated by the Conveyor Manager.
  • Responsible for making sure that all trash is disposed of daily.
  • Ensure the sort decks are swept daily and all boxes that fall off the conveyor system are collected.
  • Pickup damaged or fallen cartons, repair if required, and place them back on the conveyor during the shift.
  • Maintain proper and accurate documentation of conveyor counts and problems.
  • Communicate by radio with different departments about various types of freight issues at the sorter.
  • Make recommendations for procedural improvements and modifications to the system or procedures to the Conveyor Manager.
  • Perform work effectively to limit operational downtime, with a goal of zero downtime.
