About The Position

The first grade teacher is responsible for all the normal duties associated with teaching a first grade class. The teacher is the driving force behind the academic success of the students and how parents view the effectiveness of the academy. This person will proactively ensure that innovative teaching approaches are incorporated into the classroom through interaction with other teachers, school administration and parents.

Requirements

Academic: Bachelor's degree in elementary education.
Experience related to 21st century learning concepts and integration of technology into the classroom.
Knowledge of Christian K-12 education (characteristics).
Valid Minnesota teaching license.
Spiritual: Can effectively integrate the gospel-centered message into day-to-day responsibilities effectively.
Has a strong reputation exemplified by passion and consistency that students want to emulate and parents' respect.
Proactively seeks ways to improve how the school presents itself from a Christian perspective.
Born again believer who exhibits the Fruit of the Spirit in their daily walk.
Regular attendee and supporter of a church whose fundamental beliefs are evangelical in nature

Vision and Perspective – Perspective limited to needs of own classes. Understands how their own job assignment fits in with the needs of the whole school. Has an understanding of the school mission.
Problem Solving/Decision Making – Able to solve problems applicable to classes taught and necessary for basic job performance. Can analyze problem situations and present alternatives to their direct supervisor.
Teamwork and Team Building – Consistently applies principles of teamwork as applicable to role. Can effectively cope with change. Demonstrates a team spirit by encouraging team members and recognizing their successes.
Conflict Resolution – Able to resolve conflicts. Strives to find solutions while seeking administrative or peer assistance as needed.

Responsibilities

Planning instructional work.
Classroom planning overview for the year.
Applying biblical integration principles to all classes.
Weekly lesson planning & preparation.
Lesson plans posted on RenWeb.
Curriculum evaluation including course objectives.
Inventory curriculum and supplies
Communication with parents, students and administration.
Maintaining grades in the school management system on a timely basis.
Proactively communication with parents on a regular basis.
Conduct fall grade level parent meeting and conferences.
Classroom Management.
Keeping records including daily attendance and lunch counts.
Maintain a clean and appealing classroom which includes maintaining classroom bulletin boards and displays.
Be aware of and enforce handbook policies (Teacher and Student Handbooks).
Collaborate with the special needs department in order to help students with special needs to adapt to the classroom.
Attending scheduled faculty meetings.
Monitoring of bus and carpool areas according to the schedule.
Assist with special school programs as assigned.
Other duties as assigned.
