Half-Time 1st Grade Co-Teacher (Supporting a Department Chair as Co-teacher) American Heritage School is a mission-driven, faith-centered private school aligned with the teachings and values of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We are seeking a part-time co-teacher to teach elementary, and more specifically 1st grade students. Nature of the Role This position is considered a faith-forming role within American Heritage School. In addition to academic instruction, teachers are expected to actively support, model, and teach principles consistent with the Mission and values of AHS and the teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Qualifications Candidates should have a minimum of two years of experience, preferably in a formal elementary school setting. A bachelor's degree or equivalent is required. This position requires attendance at after school events such as Parent Teacher Conferences, elementary after-hours events, in-service trainings, and summer trainings. Successful candidates will demonstrate an enduring love of youth and a genuine passion for teaching and learning, as well as a commitment to actively participate in and contribute to a faith-based educational environment aligned with the teachings and values of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Candidates should also demonstrate strong communication and classroom management skills, high energy and a warm, consistent presence in the classroom, experience preparing and delivering daily lesson plans, experience establishing and communicating clear learning objectives, and the ability to use a variety of pedagogical methods along with a willingness to continue learning and growing professionally. Faith and Mission Responsibilities In addition to academic responsibilities, teachers at AHS are expected to integrate faith-based principles and moral reasoning into classroom instruction where appropriate, serve as an example of Christian character and discipleship to students, support and uphold the spiritual mission of the school through daily interactions with students and colleagues, participate in school-wide devotionals, prayer, and other faith-centered activities, and respond thoughtfully to student questions related to faith, values, and moral decision-making in a manner consistent with the school's mission. Professional Expectations Candidates should be professional in appearance and demeanor and willing and able to serve as ambassadors for the AHS Mission, Honor Code, and Diversity Statement. Personal conduct, public statements, and online presence, both on and off campus, are expected to reflect and support the school's religious mission and educational purpose. Teaching Responsibilities The 3rd Grade Co-Teacher plays a vital role in supporting both student learning and the overall strength of the grade-level team. Working alongside a Department Chair who also serves as the lead co-teacher, this position requires flexibility, strong collaboration skills, and a commitment to the mission and culture of American Heritage School. The primary responsibility of the co-teacher is to help create a structured, well-managed, and engaging classroom environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and spiritually. A strong emphasis is placed on classroom management, as a well-ordered classroom is essential for meaningful learning to occur. The co-teacher is expected to actively prepare lesson plans, support and uphold clear expectations for student behavior, routines, and self-governance, and perform all tasks expected of an AHS employed teacher. Instructionally, the co-teacher will assist in delivering lessons across subject areas, working with small groups, reinforcing concepts, and providing targeted support to students who need additional help. This role also includes helping monitor student progress, providing feedback, and supporting differentiation to meet the needs of all learners. Because the teaching partner is also a Department Chair, the co-teacher must demonstrate a high level of professionalism, responsiveness, and trust. This includes being adaptable to shifting needs, supporting implementation of grade-level decisions, and helping ensure alignment with schoolwide expectations. The co-teacher should approach the role with a spirit of humility, collaboration, and a willingness to learn and grow. Additionally, the co-teacher contributes to the overall team dynamic by communicating clearly and positively, participating fully in meetings, and supporting grade-level and schoolwide initiatives. At AHS, we value unity and shared purpose, and the co-teacher is expected to actively contribute to a culture of respect, trust, and collegiality. Ultimately, the co-teacher serves as both a support and a partner, helping to create a classroom and team environment where students feel supported, expectations are high, and learning is meaningful. The co-teacher will follow the lead of the Department Chair in communication, classroom management, and instructional practices so that transition between the two teachers will be seamless for students. Position Details This position is available for the 2026–2027 school year. Compensation will be discussed during the interview. Important Note to Applicants AHS is a mission-driven, faith-centered school. Employment at AHS requires alignment with and support of the school's religious mission and values. Individuals who are unable or unwilling to support these expectations should carefully consider whether this position is a good fit.
