Job Summary Ability to do the work of a Boiler Plant & Chiller Operator without more than normal supervision. Must have the ability to perform some tasks including operating and monitoring of high-pressure Boiler Plants and auxiliary equipment. Ability to recognize and detect abnormal high pressure boiler plant and steam system operating conditions and take immediate actions to eliminate emergency situations and restore normal operating conditions; collect and test water samples and determine the amount and type of chemicals needed to control or meet various boiler chemistry parameters and achieve desired results. Perform constant meter readings and record findings for fuel oil supply and steam production. Work under the supervision of a Plant Director or Chief-level employee who reviews work for completion. Work with and direct 3rd grade operators. Healthcare experience strongly preferred.

Requirements

  • Experience with starting, operating, adjusting, and stopping high-pressure steam boilers.
  • Ability to operate and control auxiliary equipment in accordance with pollution control requirements.
  • Experience in maintaining a variety of auxiliary equipment such as pumps, heat exchangers, and valves.
  • Ability to locate and repair limited electrical problems in burner controls and safety devices.
  • Compliance with all DC regulations related to the operation and maintenance of boilers.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor high-pressure steam boilers fueled by natural gas and fuel oil.
  • Control and maintain auxiliary equipment requiring continuous attention.
  • Perform constant observation and record keeping of flow meters and production/supply meters.
  • Conduct operational repairs and preventive maintenance on boilers.
  • Collect water samples and test feed water, boiler water, and condensate.
  • Adjust blowdown methods and chemical feed pumps as necessary.
