About The Position

The 13th Circuit NE Region Prevention Associate/Social Services Specialist role is focused on providing essential support to at-risk children and families through various social services. This position involves evaluating family needs, coordinating services, and ensuring families have access to necessary resources to promote stability and prevent abuse or neglect. The role is integral to the Department of Social Services' mission to protect children and assist families in achieving self-sufficiency.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and four or more years of professional experience in protective services, or a Bachelor's degree in Social Work or a comparable field.
  • For Social Services Specialist (II): High School Diploma or equivalent and five or more years of experience, or a Bachelor's degree with one or more years of experience.
  • For Social Services Specialist (III): High School Diploma or equivalent and seven or more years of experience, or a Bachelor's degree with three or more years of experience.
  • Possession of a valid vehicle operator's license.

  • Availability to be 'on call'.
  • Ability to travel throughout the State of Missouri as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Refers families and children to community resources or higher-level staff as necessary.
  • Evaluates household members' needs and eligibility for social services through interviews.
  • Assists individuals in accessing agency and community resources.
  • Delivers and coordinates preventative services to families who agree to services.
  • Helps families maintain stability through casework and referrals for skilled counseling.
  • Provides and coordinates services for parents facing crises to facilitate behavioral changes.
  • Conducts studies and provides treatment services as ordered by a court or agency policy.
  • Interacts with law enforcement, juvenile officers, and community organizations regarding family issues.
