The position involves assisting skilled substation craft workers in installing or repairing cables or wires used in electrical power or distribution systems, performing tasks involving physical labor at construction sites.

Requirements

  • 0 - 2 years of experience working as a laborer or in any construction craft as a helper.
  • Basic knowledge of the substation field of work.
  • Ability to understand and follow directions.
  • Must have all necessary tools.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • NCCER Construction Craft Laborer certification.
  • NCCER Core Curriculum or equivalent Craft Training Program.

Responsibilities

  • Learn to use appropriate hand and power tools to perform a variety of functions including digging, spreading and leveling dirt and gravel.
  • Lift, carry, hold and move building materials, tools, and supplies.
  • Pull up cable by hand from large reels mounted on trucks.
  • Place insulating or fireproofing materials over conductors and joints.
  • Clean tools, equipment, material, and work areas.
  • Mix, pour and spread concrete, asphalt, gravel and other materials.
  • Perform routine, non-machine tasks such as removing forms from set concrete and filling expansion joints with asphalt.
  • Participate in all safety related processes and programs as requested.
  • Engage with your work team to ensure zero injuries.
  • Report all accidents and near misses to supervisor.
  • Participate in all pre-job work planning and safety discussions.
  • Learn to read and understand plans and specifications.
  • Assist journeyman in planning, layout, diagram, install and/or repair wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus and control equipment.
  • Examine/inspect field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost saving measures.
