K–6 Paraprofessional About MVRCS Founded in 1998, Mystic Valley Regional Charter School (MVRCS) in Malden, MA serves more than 1,750 students in Kindergarten through Grade 12. Job Summary The K–6 Paraprofessional plays a key role in supporting classroom instruction and maintaining a productive learning environment. Paraprofessionals engage students through strong classroom management strategies and provide instructional assistance under the direction of a classroom teacher, while non-instructional tasks are supervised by the assigned Assistant Director.
Requirements
- High school diploma required.
- Clear and concise communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to define problems, gather data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to perform responsibilities in alignment with all school requirements, state and federal laws, and MVRCS policies.
- Strong collaborative, teaching, coaching, and leadership skills to support student learning and operate effectively in a team environment.
- Successful completion of applicable MTEL exams within one year of employment.
- Annual position with yearly evaluation.
Responsibilities
- Support the daily classroom structure and collaborate closely with the classroom teacher.
- Assist with classroom management using the school’s assertive discipline model and redirection techniques.
- Uphold and model all school policies, rules, and behavioral expectations.
- Support group work during teacher-led instruction and provide guidance during independent work time.
- Reinforce strong learning posture (students on task, attentive, tracking, prepared, and engaged).
- Teach reading, language, math, reasoning, writing, and/or spelling groups as assigned.
- Monitor student progress and provide support to those who have not yet achieved proficiency or mastery.
- Check, record, and/or grade student work as requested by the teacher.
- Assist students with correcting assignments, reading tasks, and content-based questions.
- Track students who have not completed required work.
- Administer checkouts or retests as directed by the teacher.
- Perform assigned duties including morning arrival, lunch/recess supervision, and afternoon bus duty.
- Attend Back to School Night and other required after-school events.
- Participate in professional development provided by the school.
- Perform additional responsibilities assigned by members of the Leadership Team.
