About The Position

The Inclusion Instructional Aide assists special education students, individually or in small groups, in achieving their learning goals. The role supports teachers by preparing materials, assisting with classroom tasks, and ensuring a positive learning environment for all students. This position involves direct support for students with diverse needs, including physical, behavioral, and academic challenges.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required; 1-2 years of experience in a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent education or experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds and move objects as necessary. Frequent standing and walking are required.
  • Ability to lead and assist students with tasks, provide instructions, and help with classroom management.
  • Basic arithmetic, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and the ability to calculate percentages and decimals.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to interact effectively with students, parents, teachers, and other school staff.
  • Ability to prepare and organize educational materials, maintain accurate records, and manage classroom tasks efficiently.
  • Proficiency with basic office equipment (computers, copiers, fax machines, etc.) and educational tools.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive student information and adhere to privacy guidelines.
  • Ability to work in both classroom and office environments, remaining flexible and responsive to the needs of the students and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Assist teachers by providing direct support to students in individual or group settings, aiding in the completion of learning tasks.
  • Supervise students during various activities, including recess, lunch, field trips, assemblies, and classroom work.
  • Step in to lead or assist in classrooms during the teacher’s absence (meetings, parent conferences, emergencies, etc.).
  • Prepare and organize classroom materials, including worksheets, notes, and other necessary supplies. Assist with classroom clean-up.
  • Maintain student records, including attendance, field trip documentation, student files, and grading.
  • Support students with makeup work, assignments, and learning tasks as directed by the teacher.
  • Work closely with physical and occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, and other specialists to ensure holistic student support.
  • Record and report any behavioral concerns or incidents, following established protocols.
  • Administer first aid to injured or sick students until the school nurse can assume responsibility. Provide physical assistance to students with mobility challenges, including support with restroom needs and bus transportation.
  • Assist substitute teachers in managing the classroom, prepare correspondence, and perform other duties as assigned by the teacher or principal.
