About The Position

The Teacher Assistant position at the Gerner Family Early Education Center is designed to provide support to the instructional program within the classroom, specifically assisting in the supervision, care, and instruction of special needs students. Requirements

  • A Missouri Substitute Certificate obtained through the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
  • Either 36 college credit hours or 20 hours of online instruction through Kelly Education or Frontline, along with a high school diploma.
  • Skills in adhering to safety practices and operating standard office equipment.
  • Knowledge of instructional procedures, age-appropriate student activities, and conflict resolution.
  • Ability to schedule activities, gather data, and work with a diverse group of individuals.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with special needs students.
  • Certification in first aid and CPR.

Responsibilities

  • Adapts classroom activities, assignments, and materials under the direction of the supervising teacher.
  • Administers tests, homework, and make-up work to support teachers in the classroom.
  • Provides immediate general first aid and medical assistance as instructed by a health care professional.
  • Assists with appropriate behavioral intervention techniques as directed by the supervising teacher.
  • Attends meetings and in-service presentations to acquire and convey information related to job functions.
  • Communicates with supervising instructional staff and professional support personnel to assist in evaluating progress and implementing IEP objectives.
  • Escorts students in the building from class to class and to/from buses or cars to ensure safety.
  • Implements plans designed by the IEP team for students with special conditions under the supervision of the assigned teacher.
  • Maintains instructional materials and records to ensure availability and compliance with mandated requirements.
  • Monitors students during assigned periods in various school environments to maintain a safe learning environment.
  • Provides instruction to students in individual and group activities under the supervision of the assigned teacher.
  • Records daily and weekly logs for behaviors, academics, and prompts to ensure accurate information is kept on each student.

Benefits

  • $1.00 per hour bonus paid twice a year on January 15th and June 15th.
