About The Position

The City of Lakewood is seeking responsible individuals to officiate Baseball/Softball games beginning June 16, 2025 and ending August 2, 2025. These are at-will positions and the incumbents serve at the pleasure of the City Manager or designee. Umpires will be paid $26.44 per hour. There will be a mandatory introductory meeting held on Monday, May 12, 2025 at 5:30 p.m. at Palms Park, 12305 E. 207th St., Lakewood 90712. Expectations and requirements of the position will be covered, and the schedule for all subsequent meetings will be provided. All meetings and trainings are mandatory.

Requirements

• Must be at least 15 years of age.
• Attend a series of training sessions pertaining to baseball/softball rules and umpiring mechanics.
• Pass the required examinations.
• Knowledgeable in the fundamentals of baseball and softball.

Nice To Haves

• No prior officiating experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Officiate baseball/softball games.
• Work during the week in the evenings and on Saturdays.
• Typically work 5 - 10 hours per week, up to a maximum of 28 hours.
