About The Position

The Environmental Wastewater Operator will work with various equipment including Acid Waste Neutralization (AWN), Fluoride Treatments system, Mixed Metals Treatment System, pH/F meters, equalization systems, pumps, mixers, bag filters, filter press, clarifier, sand filter, and other waste treatment equipment. The operator is responsible for operating the waste treatment system under both routine and non-routine conditions, and will work with hazardous chemicals and waste while performing daily job duties. Training in Chemical Handling will be provided prior to starting these duties, and ongoing training will be required. The operator must be available for 24/7 emergency response to spills associated with these systems.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English to the degree necessary to perform the job
  • Comfortable working in a variety of conditions including confined spaces, damp, dusty locations, freezing and hot conditions
  • Ability to physically perform essential duties including lifting up to 50 lbs., stooping, kneeling, climbing ladders, crouching, reaching, and walking
  • Adequate respiratory functions to utilize a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus
  • Possess a valid driver's license
  • Ability to drive a forklift or be certified within 90 days
  • Ability to work extended hours on an Alternative Work Schedule (10-12 hour shifts)
  • Ability to pass a drug screen and physical exam

  • Previous experience in wastewater treatment
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Execute required chemistry tests, log and report data, and maintain product inventories
  • Operate all environmental and wastewater equipment
  • Maintain process equipment by replacing pumps, filters, and mixers, emptying the filter press, and transferring cake to containers for disposal
  • Complete metal precipitation/treatment and monitor wastewater effluent by sampling and analysis
  • Keep accurate records of all process equipment, analysis, and logs
  • Utilize handheld monitoring equipment, such as pH probes, TDS probes, and metal analyzers
  • Clean and backwash the wastewater system, maintaining a safe, neat, and orderly workplace
  • Follow all safety measures when handling chemicals and hazardous waste
  • Perform daily/weekly/monthly inspections as necessary and document results
