What you will be doing!
Independent Software is seeking a Level 2 Virtualization System Engineer with extensive experience in VMware and Windows administration.
Responsibilities
Provide extensive experience in VMware administration, including troubleshooting, upgrades, and migrations.
Demonstrate excellent command-line knowledge of ESX servers. Conduct monitoring and performance analysis of ESX servers and VMs, and manage patching using VMware Update Manager.
Work with vSphere, VMware Consolidated Backup, and perform backup and restore operations for VMware servers and virtual sessions.
Install, configure, and administer components within a large VMware environment, following best practices for vCenter, VMware Update Manager, vCenter Operation Manager, and vCenter Site Recovery Manager.
Handle server consolidation and virtualization to reduce hardware requirements and manage site migrations via P2V (Physical to Virtual) and V2V (Virtual to Virtual).
Upgrade ESXi hosts and VM guests using VMware Update Manager.
Utilize excellent analytical skills to identify issues, recommend solutions, and conduct audits to suggest operational improvements in technology and processes.
Develop and apply advanced methods and research techniques to address complex system design issues.
Resolve hardware and software problems to minimize downtime. - Stay current with relevant literature, patents, and practices related to project solutions.
Review the completion and implementation of systems enhancements, offering recommendations for technical applications and corrections to management.
Evaluate vendor capabilities to ensure they meet the required product or service standards.
Consult with other organizations on technical aspects.
Maintain the security posture of server systems.
Ensure server data integrity by evaluating, implementing, and managing appropriate software and hardware solutions.
Conduct regular hardware and software audits of servers to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines.
Develop and maintain a comprehensive database of hardware and software configurations and supporting documentation.
Respond to system alerts and engage in troubleshooting and problem resolution.
Collaborate with vendors regarding product capabilities and necessary improvements to meet customer requirements.
Schedule installations and upgrades, maintaining compliance with established IT policies and procedures, including higher-level security auditing software installations and remediation of defects based on customer security policies.
Experience and Education:
A minimum of 14 years of experience as a System Engineer in programs and contracts similar in scope, type, and complexity is required.
A Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or a related discipline from an accredited college or university is required. Alternatively, five additional years of relevant experience may be substituted for a Bachelor’s degree. -
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills are a must.
Strong communication and customer interaction skills are essential.
Willingness to support after-hours activities is required.
Candidates must possess an active TS/SCI clearance with a polygraph to be considered for this role.
