About The Position

The Carlyle Group seeks to hire a Vice President within the AlpInvest Primary Fund Investment team. AlpInvest Partners is one of the largest and well-established private equity investors globally, with nearly $91 billion committed to investments since inception. AlpInvest is wholly owned by The Carlyle Group and serves as the private equity multi-manager adviser within the Carlyle Investment Solutions business segment. AlpInvest's activities cover a broad range of private equity, including Primary Fund commitments, Secondary Investments and Co-Investments. Within the private equity ecosystem the firm's investments are focused on the buyout and growth equity subsegments. AlpInvest offers customized private equity solutions to single clients through separately managed accounts as well as commingled funds. AlpInvest has a large and diverse base of about 450 investors globally, including sovereign wealth funds, public and private pension funds, insurance companies, and family offices. The Primary Fund Investment team proactively sources relationships with leading private equity sponsors who are typically access constrained, utilizing the strength and depth of the AlpInvest platform. Across its history AlpInvest has committed to ~950 funds globally and deployed ~$48bn of fund commitments. AlpInvest is currently deploying +$2bn annually into fund investments and is generally regarded as a leading Limited Partner given the depth of track record and reputation working alongside our sponsors. The Primary Fund Investment team maintains deep relationships with our GPs and sits on the advisory boards of more than 80% of our fund commitments. Representative relationships include GTCR, TA Associates, KPS Capital Partners, Symphony Technology Group, Nautic Partners, Advent International, Sentinel Capital, Trivest Partners, and Parthenon. The primary program is mid-market oriented but supports GPs from an emerging stage through the large cap segment and builds highly customized portfolios for our clients.

Requirements

  • College degree required, MBA is a nice to have
  • 5-10 years of prior experience in private equity investing
  • Expertise with underwriting primary fund investments and building relationships with sponsors
  • Proven ability to relationship build with GPs and drive opportunities for the broader platform
  • Strong financial modeling capability and ability to interpret financial metrics when analyzing investment opportunities
  • Experience with outside in sector research and comparative analyses
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Source opportunities to partner with leading private equity sponsors
  • Lead the evaluation and execution of fund commitments while fully managing our due diligence process which includes a comprehensive review of diligence materials (sponsor dataroom, PPM, DDQ, financial statements, reference materials, legal documents, etc.)
  • Organize and lead due diligence sessions with GPs
  • Prepare investment memos and recommendations for investment committee
  • Monitor existing fund commitments through regular ongoing interactions with GPs and participation in Limited Partner Advisory Board meetings
  • Prepare periodic investor updates and participate in meeting with the Primary team's client base, supporting our capital raising activities
  • Develop and mentor junior investment professionals
