About The Position

The Utility Construction Project Planner at Black Hills Energy is responsible for managing capital and maintenance projects related to electric transmission and distribution systems. This role involves overseeing projects from initiation to completion, ensuring compliance with company standards and providing exceptional service to customers. The planner will coordinate with various departments and stakeholders to ensure timely and cost-effective project execution while maintaining a focus on customer satisfaction.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of five years' experience in construction, project management, engineering, or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Enter new service requests using company approved systems and processes.
  • Ensure electric construction aligns with BHE and industry codes and standards.
  • Obtain vital rights-of-way, easements, and other permits.
  • Communicate BHE construction policies and procedures to customers.
  • Perform site visits to ensure work site readiness prior to construction.
  • Plan and schedule all work on assigned projects for timely and cost-effective construction.
  • Coordinate logistics with Supply Chain, Meter Services, Line Services, and other departments.
  • Ensure accurate completion of projects in Company mapping, asset, and accounting systems.
  • Monitor actual vs. estimated costs on work orders and explain significant variances.
  • Assist with planning electric crews' work schedules for efficient labor resource use.
  • Provide input for Capital/O&M budget creation and prioritization.
  • Act as a key contact for City, County, and State Road and highway relocation projects.
  • Review civil engineering plans for relocating BHE facilities.
  • Provide indirect supervision of Estimator I and II classifications related to project management and customer communications.
  • Monitor documentation and invoicing for non-basic third-party damage claims.
  • Assist with state utility commission and governmental audits as needed.
  • Provide backup to Operations Supervisors for on-call rotation as needed.
