About The Position

The Human Resources Coordinator for Academic Affairs serves as a liaison with the USC Upstate Provost's Office and the USC Upstate Human Resources office to ensure the timely and accurate administration academic units at USC Upstate in accordance with the Faculty Manual, Human Resources policies and procedures, and state and federal regulations. This role involves coordinating with and advising Deans and Department Chairs on faculty recruitment efforts that are timely, competitive, cost-effective, and accessible. The coordinator liaises with the USC Upstate Human Resources Office and Office of International Scholars to ensure compliance with all university policies and state/federal laws. Responsibilities include posting required advertisements for full-time positions, maintaining necessary records, assisting new faculty with hiring procedures, onboarding, and orientation, and planning and leading trainings and workshops annually for administrators, search committee members, and administrative staff on search processes.

Requirements

  • Requires a bachelor's degree.
  • 2 or more years of experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience.
  • A successful background check is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree and 3 years related experience in business management, public administration, or administrative services.
  • Experience in a higher education setting is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates with and advises Deans and Department Chairs on faculty recruitment efforts.
  • Liaises with the USC Upstate Human Resources Office and Office of International Scholars.
  • Posts required advertisements for full-time positions and maintains necessary records.
  • Assists new faculty with hiring procedures, onboarding, and orientation.
  • Plans and leads trainings and workshops annually for administrators, search committee members, and administrative staff.
  • Tracks and processes all faculty human resources actions such as appointments, reappointments, sabbaticals, modified duties, etc.
  • Initiates all forms of appointment-related extra compensation for faculty.
  • Reviews and processes all other HR actions initiated by departments.
  • Initiates and/or approves all temporary hiring activities in Academic Affairs.
  • Resolves and troubleshoots issues with faculty pay.
  • Maintains accurate records of faculty ranks for use by Deans, Chairs, and other administrators.
  • Collects and reviews the full-time and part-time rosters for all departments.
  • Provides reports as needed to the Provost, faculty committees, and the Faculty Senate.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date faculty credential records.
  • Supports the Promotion and Tenure processes by providing administrative support.
  • Delivers all required materials to Columbia by deadline.
  • Maintains all required records and documentation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
