About The Position

The Teaching Assistant in Lower School at Portledge School is a full-time position aimed at supporting the 4th grade classroom teacher and students. Requirements

• BA Degree minimum; degree preferred in relevant area(s).
• Teaching certification preferred; required for all elementary teaching positions.
• Experience working with young children is preferred.
• Ability to walk and stand continuously for extended periods of time.
• Ability to lift up to 30lbs periodically.
• Ability to develop trusting, supportive relationships with students.
• Willingness to assist with diaper changing, potty training, mealtimes, and outdoor play.

Nice To Haves

• Familiarity with and ability to use Google docs, drive and slides as both a professional collaboration tool and an integrated instructional tool in the classroom.

Responsibilities

• Support the 4th grade classroom teacher and students.
• Participate in team meetings and planning as appropriate.
• Deliver consistent high-quality instruction and mentoring to students.
• Stay current with educational research and pedagogy related to classroom instruction.
• Maintain the online Atlas curriculum database for courses taught.
• Attend a minimum of 4-6 evening/weekend programs that support the community throughout the year.
