About The Position

The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) plays a crucial role in enhancing supplier processes to meet performance metrics related to delivery, quality, service, and value. This position involves working collaboratively with component teams to develop new supply sources, manage supplier relationships, and ensure compliance with quality standards. The SQE will oversee cross-functional program management, supplier audits, and technical support, contributing to the overall success of product launches and supplier development initiatives.

Requirements

  • Five years of Engineering and/or Manufacturing experience.
  • Experience in Sourcing, Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, and program management.
  • Experience in developing and implementing vendor qualification.
  • Substantial experience in a high volume manufacturing environment, preferably automotive.
  • Substantial experience in supplier development.
  • Knowledge of quality and business systems.
  • Strong knowledge of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), and Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA).
  • Excellent report and procedure writing skills with strong presentation abilities.
  • Understanding and interpretation of engineering drawings and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to work in a diverse and dynamic environment with strong planning and prioritization skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with strong negotiation abilities.
  • Numerically astute with strong problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Machine tool development and design experience.
  • Machining Fixture development and design experience.
  • Formal training in negotiations, leadership, and quality improvement methods.
  • Experience in gauging concepts, design, and techniques.
  • Die Casting experience in Aluminum, Brass, or Cast Iron.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe working environment by complying with all safety and environmental policies.
  • Interface with Global Commodity Component teams to prioritize supplier development needs.
  • Assess new and existing supplier capabilities to meet product, cost, quality, capacity, and fulfillment requirements.
  • Drive improvements utilizing Lean methodologies and supplier scorecards.
  • Track supplier performance indicators and ensure compliance with IATF/TS 16949 and ISO 14001.
  • Specify and develop product acceptance/test procedures for complex products.
  • Act as a consultant to communicate and coach Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering, and Procurement organizations.
  • Provide technical expertise and leadership in sourcing and supplier development.
  • Lead investigations of major problems and special projects with suppliers.
  • Manage supplier component concerns and drive Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP).
  • Assist with new product launches and carry out new supplier validation audits.
  • Work with Supplier Engineering teams to define process parameters and criteria for supplier capability.
  • Conduct benchmarking studies to determine best practices and future trends.
