About The Position

The Supervisory Forestry Technician (Fire) position involves providing oversight during initial and extended attack fires, directing fireline activities and tactics of dispersed firefighters, resources, equipment, and aircraft. The role requires utilizing wildland fire behavior knowledge and firefighting experience to assign missions to ground and aviation wildland fire suppression resources. The technician is responsible for the on-the-job safety and health of all employees supervised, performing outreach and recruitment activities, and conducting workshops to prepare applications for seasonal and permanent fire positions with the Forest Service. Additionally, the technician will conduct field reconnaissance of proposed prescribed burn units, make recommendations on appropriate treatment techniques, draft prescribed burn plans, implement approved plans, and perform post-burn evaluations and documentation.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service or exempt.
  • Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
  • Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • This is a drug testing designated position.
  • Must pass the Work Capacity Test for certain Interagency Fire Program Management positions.
  • Prior wildland firefighting experience is required.
  • Willing to live/work in remote locations.

  • Valid state driver's license.
  • Commercial driver's license (CDL).
  • Physical or medical examination.
