About The Position

The Supervisory Administrative Officer has full responsibility and authority to plan, schedule, and carry out the administrative management of the Deputy Chief of Staff Office, including human & financial resources, management analysis, procurement and contract services, supply, space, and property management. This role is responsible for the day-to-day service operations and administration, identifying areas requiring attention and recommending courses of action to the Deputy Chief of Staff.

  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel.
  • Participation in the COVID-19 vaccination program is a requirement for all Veterans Health Administration Health Care Personnel.
  • Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants must have served 52 weeks at the GS-11 level.
  • Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a manager and exercises ultimate staff responsibility for design, development, implementation, modification, evaluation, and ongoing operation of the service complex clinical and administrative programs.
  • Reviews and evaluates completed staff actions (memos, reports, studies, fact sheets, information papers) for overall quality of the document, appropriate levels of coordination, consistency, logic, soundness of recommendations, and compliance with policy.
  • Compiles and analyzes facts, develops plans, and performs extensive coordination.
  • Plans and conducts detailed management studies and analyses to determine the impact of major medical facility reorganizations and changes.
  • Directs administrative support services to ensure that inquiries, correspondence, and actions for area of responsibility are addressed appropriately.
  • Develops information papers and correspondence on a wide variety of administrative functions.
  • Prepares comprehensive reports with findings and recommendations based on varied management and administrative considerations.
  • Performs budget execution functions to ensure that expenditures are consistent with budget formulation plans.
  • Responsible for analyzing workload and costs and reviewing overall resource utilization using sound fiscal judgment.
  • Monitors resource utilization, prioritizes needs, and effects changes in view of available resources.
  • Prepares annual budget requests and must have knowledge in the development and management of budgets.
  • Advises management officials, supervisors, and employees on the interpretation and application of a variety of human resources policies, practices, and procedures.
