About The Position

The Supervisor, Mining Safety position at Empire Southwest is responsible for fostering a strong safety culture within the organization. This role involves mentoring and training employees on best safety practices, developing and implementing safety programs, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations at the mine site. The supervisor will work closely with various departments to promote safety awareness and maintain a safe working environment.

Requirements

  • Proof of high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Seven to ten years' experience in safety compliance.
  • MSHA Safety Certification required.
  • Experience as a trainer of MSHA and OSHA regulations.
  • Knowledge of proper operation and repairs of construction and mining equipment.
  • Ability to communicate in English (speak, read, comprehend, write).

Nice To Haves

  • EMT, CPR and First Responder trainer experience and/or certifications preferred.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to accommodate differential shift employees.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates and supports supervisors and employees in developing a Safety Culture.
  • Mentors employees at the Client Mine site to lead the development of safety awareness and safe work habits.
  • Plans, organizes, and facilitates safety activities for Empire employees at the Client Mine Site.
  • Provides Client MSHA training as required.
  • Establishes and leads the Empire Morenci Operations Leadership Team to conduct Root Cause Analyses of incidents and near misses.
  • Conducts detailed safety assessments of work areas to identify existing or potential hazards.
  • Authorizes prompt action to maintain a healthy and safe work environment.
  • Provides best practice safety instruction to employees.
  • Plans and organizes safety training for area supervisors on safety policies.
  • Works with area Supervisors and corporate safety department to ensure compliance with safety policies.
  • Uses the Training Department's Learning Management System to verify employee training compliance.
  • Collaborates with Client and Mine Site Health & Safety management to meet safety program expectations.
  • Attends Client's contractor safety meetings monthly or as scheduled.
  • Maintains knowledge of Client's safety program and requirements.
  • Works on company-wide safety policy and training initiatives as assigned.
