About The Position

The City of Decatur is seeking Temporary Crew Workers for the summer season, specifically targeting current high school and college students. The program lasts approximately 9 weeks and includes positions in various branches of Public Works, including Cemetery Operations, Ground Maintenance, and Building Maintenance. The work hours vary by department, with shifts typically running from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm for Cemetery Operations and 6:30 am to 3:00 pm for Ground Maintenance and Building Maintenance. Workers may also be required to work every other weekend, some evenings, and holidays.

Requirements

• Current high school or college student.
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
• Familiarity with hand-operated power tools and landscape maintenance equipment is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in managing the growth and character of the City of Decatur's cemetery through maintenance and beautification tasks.
• Perform heavy manual tasks and operate specialized tools and light equipment for the maintenance of burial plots and preparation of gravesites.
• Enhance the City's atmosphere by preserving and maintaining the landscape through landscaping, beautification, and maintenance of parks, right-of-ways, ball fields, and undeveloped lots.
• Use a variety of hand-operated power tools and landscape maintenance equipment.
• Perform custodial activities in various City buildings and parks, including cleaning bathrooms, washing windows, emptying trash cans, sweeping/mopping/vacuuming floors, dusting furniture, and emptying recycling bins.
• Complete other assigned tasks as needed under the supervision of the Crew Supervisor.
