About The Position

The School District of Suwannee County is seeking a Substitute School Nurse to provide direct health services and consultations to students, enhancing their educational process and potential. The position requires the nurse to assess health needs, administer health screenings, assist with medication, and maintain health records. The nurse will also communicate with parents and staff regarding student health issues and act as a liaison to medical providers. This role is crucial in ensuring the health and safety of students within the school environment.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse certification preferred; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Current First Aid/CPR Certification.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of nursing experience.
  • Valid Florida License for Registered Nurse.
  • Or other appropriate certificates/licenses required by the District.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and evaluate health screenings as scheduled.
  • Assist in the taking of prescribed medication by students and maintain required records.
  • Monitor students placed on new medication per doctor's orders.
  • Assess student health needs and provide first aid within the scope of licensure.
  • Assist in completing health room cards and keeping records on students referred to the clinic.
  • Communicate with parents/staff regarding student health problems and refer to Public Health Nurse as needed.
  • Assist in the establishment of a cumulative health record on each student, document identified problems and corrective measures and update as needed.
  • Assist in the implementation of the annual School Health Services Plan and completion of data for the Annual Report.
  • Handle physician's orders for medications and transcribe onto the medication sheet.
  • Maintain clinic area and supplies as appropriate.
  • Ride school bus with specific medically fragile students when assigned.
  • Assist with health related instructions of students, parents, or staff in conjunction with the Public Health nurse or instructional staff of the school.
  • Maintain effective interpersonal relationships and communication with students, parents, school personnel and community.
  • Demonstrate initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities.
  • Provide for a safe and secure workplace.
  • Model and maintain high ethical standards.
  • Follow attendance, punctuality and proper dress rules.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding school matters.
  • Maintain positive relationships with staff and vendors.
  • Participate in workshops, in-service and other training sessions as required.
  • Act as school liaison to medical providers of students at the school.
  • Submit nursing services records as required by the state and/or federal law.
  • Communicate effectively with staff and vendors.
  • Keep supervisor informed of potential problems or unusual events.
  • Respond to inquiries and concerns in a timely manner.
  • Participate as a member of health and safety-related committees and professional organizations.
  • Assist with an operational plan for the management of emergency health needs, including critical incident plans for disasters.
  • Prepare all required reports and maintain all appropriate records.
  • Follow all School Board policies, rules and regulations.
  • Exhibit interpersonal skills to work as an effective team member.
  • Demonstrate support for the School District and its goals and priorities.
  • Perform other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent.

Benefits

  • $25.00 Per Hour for RN
  • $16.00 for LPN
