About The Position

The Community Building Assistant plays a vital role in maintaining a safe and comfortable living environment for residents at Cedar Commons, a supportive housing facility in Portland. This position involves routine cleaning, upkeep, and monitoring of building activities, while also providing assistance to residents and coordinating with other staff members. The assistant is responsible for identifying and reporting resident issues, ensuring community cohesion, and supporting the overall mission of Central City Concern to end homelessness through effective community engagement and support.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED or actively pursuing one.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English.
  • Basic computer skills including Word, Excel, and Email.
  • Physical ability to perform tasks such as bending, lifting, and climbing stairs.
  • Ability to adhere to a drug-free workplace policy and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Ability to interact respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

  • Previous experience with janitorial and resident service.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine building cleaning and upkeep tasks.
  • Monitor building activities and report any issues to management.
  • Assist residents with inquiries and provide information about community resources.
  • Coordinate effectively with other building staff to ensure smooth operations.
  • Conduct periodic inspections of common areas and report hazardous conditions.
  • Maintain daily logs and reports as required by management.
  • Monitor surveillance cameras and overall security of the property.
  • Remove ice and snow during inclement weather as needed.
  • Support compliance with privacy regulations and report any breaches of protected health information.
