About The Position

The Solar Operations Engineer at Cypress Creek Renewables is responsible for overseeing and managing the daily operations of a growing portfolio of utility-scale photovoltaic (PV) plants. This role involves acting as the main technical point of contact for assigned facilities, assisting in troubleshooting, conducting causal analysis, and implementing performance improvement initiatives. The engineer will also contribute to performance reports for both internal and external stakeholders, while mentoring junior engineering team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's and/or Master's in Engineering, preferably Electrical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license, Engineer in Training (EIT), or desire to obtain one.
  • 4+ years of experience in the operation and troubleshooting of electrical equipment.
  • Experience or education in data analytics, using programming (Python, R, VBA, etc.) to manipulate, analyze, and automate tasks with large data sets, preferably in the solar industry.
  • Established record of experience with photovoltaic maintenance and design.
  • Established record of experience with operation of SCADA systems such as 'Cimplicity' or 'Ignition', DAS, and control systems.
  • Established record of experience in electrical maintenance, including DC systems, AC medium voltage systems, and network communications and monitoring.
  • Established record of experience or knowledge of electrical power systems, protection coordination, and modifying relay settings.
  • Established record in relay operation, settings, and event analysis.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Ability to take direction and complete tasks with minimal oversight.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with renewable energy projects.
  • Familiarity with NERC/CIP regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the day-to-day operation and long-term performance of utility-scale photovoltaic generation facilities.
  • Analyze data from underperforming systems to identify issues.
  • Develop maintenance schedules for routine service, troubleshooting, and repair of equipment at photovoltaic facilities.
  • Manage complex tasks and projects for the Operations & Maintenance team.
  • Assist field technicians and control room operators with system troubleshooting.
  • Perform root cause analysis for major system faults.
  • Predict future issues through daily monitoring and trending.
  • Create performance reports for asset management and project finance teams.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for technical questions regarding facility performance from external parties.
