About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Infrastructure Administrator III to join our team. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in Windows Server management, advanced PowerShell scripting, AWS operational support and a solid background in leading technical teams through peer influence and training. You will be responsible for deploying, configuring, and managing critical infrastructure systems that support various operational functions within Grainger, including warehouse management, financial systems, and more. Your role will contribute to ensuring system availability, enhancing automation, and continuously improving operational efficiency. You will report to Manager, IT operations and will have the opportunity to work remotely.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years Windows Server Administration (2016/2019) Experience Required
  • Advanced PowerShell scripting skills, with proven ability to automate system tasks and improve infrastructure management.
  • Proficient in managing Active Directory, LDAP, DNS, DHCP, IIS, and Windows security.
  • Experience in automating IT infrastructure using tools like Tanium, AAP, Terraform, and GPO.
  • Familiarity with relational databases (MS SQL Server, Oracle) and how OS layer supports those technologies.
  • Hands-on experience working with Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure, with preference given to candidates who are AWS SysOps Certified.
  • Expertise in using monitoring tools such as Splunk, Zenoss, or equivalent to monitor infrastructure health and performance.
  • Solid understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP) and experience managing Windows security, users/groups, and associated technologies.
  • Experience with system performance optimization, incident resolution, and process improvements for infrastructure systems.
  • Strong communication skills for effective technical mentoring and leading peer groups.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and prioritize tasks.
  • Strong analytical skills to identify system issues and optimize performance.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain Windows Server environments, including Windows Server 2016/2019, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, IIS, and other essential server roles.
  • Design and implement robust monitoring solutions (e.g., disk usage, CPU/memory performance) to ensure the health and availability of critical applications and infrastructure.
  • Provide expert-level support for system administration, including issue triage, root cause analysis, and resolution of complex technical problems.
  • Develop and implement automation solutions using tools such as PowerShell, Ansible Automation Platform(AAP), and Group Policy Objects (GPO) to eliminate manual tasks and improve system reliability.
  • Lead and influence peers through training and knowledge-sharing sessions, fostering a culture of continuous technical learning and improvement.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams (e.g., Frontline Operations, Command Center) to resolve escalated technical issues and ensure effective resolution.
  • Adhere to best practices in Change, Incident, Problem, and Request Management to ensure consistent delivery and documentation of IT operations.
  • Provide 24x7 on-call support on a rotational basis to resolve production issues outside of regular hours, approximately once per month.
