About The Position

We are seeking a candidate to fill a part-time (with the possibility of advancing to full-time) Senior Instrumentation Engineer opening. This position will support Hanson's growing practice in logistic infrastructure for industrial plants and terminals. It will be located within the Industry Business Unit. The industry business unit works on solving complex industrial plant logistics and material handling challenges. The Senior Instrumentation Engineer will lead instrumentation and control systems design on complex industrial projects. This role demands a licensed PE with a strong understanding of both instrumentation and electrical design deliverables. Familiarity with rail and truck loading & unloading racks and product custody transfer criteria is highly desirable.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Instrumentation, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • A current, up to date PE license in at least one state with desire and ability to obtain in other states.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in industrial or oil & gas instrumentation.
  • Strong knowledge of field instrumentation, control systems, safety systems, and process integration.
  • Familiarity with electrical engineering deliverables and coordination across disciplines.
  • Proficient in AutoDesk suite of products (AutoCAD Plant 3D, AutoCAD Civil 3D, etc.) and other common design tools; experience with 3D model reviews a plus.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with loading/unloading rack design and custody transfer instrumentation.
  • Ability to mentor junior engineers and interface directly with clients.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the instrumentation scope of work from concept through construction for industrial and oil & gas projects.
  • Develop and review key I&C deliverables: Instrument specifications, datasheets, and selection/sizing calculations.
  • Create loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, hook-up details, and installation drawings.
  • Draft control narratives, Cause & Effect diagrams, PLC/DCS I/O counts, cable schedules, panel designs, and bill of materials (MTOs).
  • Conduct area classification and network topology design.
  • Provide instrumentation input to P&IDs and coordinate with process and mechanical teams.
  • Understand, review and support development of electrical engineering deliverables such as; single line diagrams, panel schedules, load lists, and power distribution.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards (ISA, API, NEC, CSA, etc.).
  • Participate in client meetings, HAZOP/LOPA reviews, and multi-discipline model reviews (30/60/90%).
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors; review submittals and provide construction support.
  • Support cost estimate, manage material requisitions, and track change orders.
  • Travel occasionally for site visits and field support in the U.S. and Canada.
