About the position
Discord is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager with technical expertise in Machine Learning and AI to build and iterate on new ML-driven products that foster creativity, discovery, and engagement on the platform. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience leading complex technical projects with successful outcomes, building and leading a team of highly-engaged engineers, and mentoring and guiding the careers of the engineers through coaching and finding opportunities that support their technical skillset and goals. Responsibilities
- Build and iterate on new ML-driven products to foster creativity, discovery and engagement on Discord
- Use your technical expertise to build robust, high-scale machine learning systems that power product features used by millions of users every day
- Build and lead a team of highly-engaged engineers by hiring, coaching, and instilling a sense of ownership and mission
- Mentor and guide the careers of the engineers through coaching and finding opportunities that support their technical skillset and goals
- Work with Product and Policy teams to create ML-driven systems that adhere to our core values
- Work with other Engineering Managers to improve the Engineering organization and uphold our workplace philosophy
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience as a Machine Learning Engineer or Applied Scientist
- 3+ years of experience as a technical people manager
- Extensive experience leading complex technical projects with successful outcomes
- Experience working with complex distributed machine learning systems deployed at scale and building end-to-end machine learning solutions
- Thoughtful about the impact of AI technology and committed to AI safety
- Passionate about applications driven by user feedback and end user experiences
- Strong product sense and takes pride in understanding customers
- Strong communication skills and ability to work well cross-functionally
- Motivated to help team members succeed and experience developing engineers of multiple levels
- Keeps up with industry trends and identifies new techniques to solve technical problems
