About the position
As a Senior DevOps Engineer at Helix, you will have the opportunity to join a founding team of engineers based in Mexico City and make a significant impact on health outcomes and genomic health worldwide. Your role will involve innovating on developer infrastructure, collaborating with cross-functional teams, deploying and operating software at scale, and establishing strong engineering best practices. Additionally, you will have the chance to mentor other engineers and contribute to a culture of learning and teaching. This position requires 6+ years of development experience, proficiency with distributed systems and cloud infrastructure, and expertise in Linux environments. Fluency in English and willingness to work onsite in Mexico City for at least three days a week are also required.
Responsibilities
- Innovate on new ways to evolve developer infrastructure and productivity
- Collaborate with product managers, bioinformaticians, scientists, and other engineers
- Deploy and operate software with reliability and scale for developers and health systems
- Establish and maintain strong engineering best practices
- Mentor other engineers to reinforce a culture of learning and teaching
Requirements
- 6+ years development experience in Go, Python, Java, Javascript, or similar
- Proficiency with distributed systems built on cloud infrastructure — AWS or similar
- Experience with operating serverless (e.g., Lambda) and container-based (e.g., Docker) infrastructure
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code tooling/frameworks (e.g., Terraform, CDK)
- Expert sysadmin skills in a Linux environment
- Thought leadership and a successful track record mentoring other engineers
- Affinity for an engineering culture that emphasizes Agile, DevOps, and continuous delivery
- Proven track record of successful project deliveries improving developer productivity
- Willing to work onsite in Mexico City for at least three days each week
- Fluency in English, both written and verbal
- BS+ in Computer Science; coursework in genetics or bioinformatics (plus)
- Familiarity with regulated software systems and entities (plus)
