About the position
The job overview for the Senior Developer Educator position at PlanetScale is to create and maintain educational resources that showcase the product and educate the market on MySQL and databases. This includes developing technical content such as blog posts, trainings, workshops, documentation, sample applications, and webinars. The role also involves revitalizing interest in the MySQL world by creating intermediate/advanced video and written courses. Collaboration with the Engineering and Support teams to keep documentation accurate and up-to-date, as well as developing technical sales materials, is also part of the job. The ideal candidate should have experience as a database administrator or senior software engineer, a passion for education and content creation, advanced SQL and/or database knowledge, and the ability to break down technical topics into easily understandable pieces.
Responsibilities
- Create and maintain educational resources such as blog posts, trainings, workshops, documentation, sample applications, webinars, etc.
- Develop intermediate/advanced video and written courses for the MySQL learning platform to revitalize interest in the MySQL world.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Support teams to ensure accurate and up-to-date documentation.
- Develop technical sales materials to strategically position the product against competitors.
- Utilize advanced SQL and/or database knowledge to write deep technical content.
- Share knowledge and break technical topics into easy-to-understand pieces.
- Take the lead and steer projects to completion.
- Work on multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Have 4+ years of experience as a software engineer or database administrator.
- Possess advanced knowledge of MySQL and general database management.
- Be proficient in written and spoken English.
- Be able to travel 1-4 times per year for team off-site.

- 4+ years experience as a software engineer or database administrator
- Advanced knowledge of MySQL and general database management (experience working with Vitess is a bonus)
- Proficient in written and spoken English
